What inspires Cinémathèque de Tanger to engage in field support?

We are inspired by the belief that cinema should be accessible to everyone.

Our field work brings us closer to communities, helping us listen, learn, and share.

Through these connections, we turn film into a space for dialogue, education, and imagination.

Reframing the House

What We Are Testing

At the Cinémathèque de Tanger, we have launched an experimental initiative to shift from a traditional pyramidal management structure toward a more horizontal and participatory model. This approach is rooted in the values of shared responsibility, open dialogue, and collective intelligence. The aim is to decentralise decision-making, encourage initiative at all levels, and foster a workplace culture based on trust, collaboration, and transparency.

The experiment involves rethinking internal communication, redistributing roles, and testing new mechanisms for group reflection and decision-making. It includes regular team assemblies, rotating facilitation roles, and tools for peer feedback and co-evaluation. We are also engaging in documentation and reflection throughout the process, allowing space for learning, iteration, and adjustment. This transformation is not just structural; it’s cultural. By dismantling hierarchies and activating collective agency, we hope to build a more resilient, inclusive, and creative institution.

Horizontal Management Test

Exploring new ways of working by shifting from a pyramidal structure to a more participatory, transparent, and collaborative model. The goal is to build a healthier, more inclusive institutional culture that empowers all team members and reflects the democratic values we promote through cinema practices.

As we carry out this experiment, we are asking ourselves:

Meet the team

Far more than Tangier’s beloved cinema hub in the restored Cinema Rif, the Cinémathèque de Tanger functions as both a vibrant cultural venue and a proactive force for systemic cultural development. Alongside its crucial work in film programming, visual arts initiatives, and pioneering children’s film education. It’s a multifaceted institution dedicated to curating film and visual arts, educating future generations, and fundamentally impacting cultural development. Its mission actively encompasses: promoting diverse cinematic and visual expression, initiating children into media practice, conducting research and experimentation, and advocating for progressive cultural policies to reshape the creative landscape of the city and beyond.
